Birds is an interactive art installation examining presence and absence through a network of 100 Birds. Each Bird may be present or absent across three states: Home, Sanctuary, or Away.

Birds debuted via livestream from a physical installation in .

The second installation will take place in Marfa, Texas, where Birds will be represented in an Away state for the first time.

A few miles outside Marfa, on twenty five acres of high desert, all three states of the work will be shown across a multi screen installation. The event will be free and open to the public.

During the installation, 23 Birds will appear in their Away state, set within a Marfa landscape filmed on the same land where the work will be shown.

T H E  M I N T

A live poster of the 23 Birds shown in Marfa.

The poster reads the state of the Birds directly from the Bird contract. A Bird lands on the wire only while it is Away, and flies off when it returns Home or goes to Sanctuary.

100 editions, each a 1/1. Every token carries its own slight misprint, so no two posters print the same.

The Mint is a thank you to everyone who brought the Birds to Marfa, and a way for others to support the work. Each Mint can be redeemed in Marfa for its own 8x10 linen print output of the poster as well as a merch item.
